Carols for Children is a soft math band from Los Angeles. Their music consists of gentle, fluid melodies, generally using fluctuating rhythmic schemes.
Carols for Children started as songs Milo (guitar/voice; they/them) wrote as a way to help heal their damaged relationship with contemporary classical music. Milo managed to convince Duncan (guitar; he/him), also a composer and the guitar player in Milo’s favorite band ever, to write counter melodies and interlocking guitar parts to the songs despite their un-artful lyrics about Milo’s dumb problems (gender, smoking so much weed you can’t speak, hurting/being hurt by the people you love, stuff like that). Eventually Jacob (drums; he/him) a jazz* drummer pursuing a graduate degree at Cal Arts helped record the EP and decided to stick around because his unbelievable versatility and command of polyrhythms is surpassed only by his unbelievable kindness and friendliness. To round out the line up, Milo forced Jasper (bass; he/him) their 14-year-old composer/jazz bass player younger brother to play electric bass in exchange for driving him to his community college classes and to restaurants around LA.
